Words to live by...

"How beautiful it is to do nothing, and to rest afterward."

[Spanish Proverb]

Ius luxuriae publice datum est

(The right to looseness has been officially given)

"Everyone carries a part of society on his shoulders," wrote Ludwig von Mises, "no one is relieved of his share of responsibility by others. And no one can find a safe way for himself if society is sweeping towards destruction. Therefore everyone, in his own interest, must thrust himself vigorously into the intellectual battle."

Apparently, the crossword puzzle that disappeared from the blog, came back.

All the news that does not seem to fit

As readers might know, or have guessed, I spend some time each day perusing the news as supplied mostly by Google. We know that Google is, legally speaking, "without sin" in deciding what it presents as the result of searches and its news displays are nothing more than searches, are they not?

Today's (Sunday) perusal turned up the usual... a translucent white "flower" on Mars, confusing headlines about the unemployment rate, a supposed attempt to sell or lease launch facilities "owned" by NASA, something about feathered dinosaurs' mating habits, and the mating (and other alleged) habits of some celebrities in the U.S.  And other pointless trivia...

And people wonder why I am such a cynic...

Isn't the algorithm a closely guarded secret? My suspicion is that's all about the money and the maximization of profit ultimately.
